  • With all the changes to the search index in the past few weeks, I'd like to dump my current search index and reindex everything with the new guidelines (badwords.php & the >3 characters).

What's the best way to dump my current index so I can reindex it again? Or do I just 'reindex' it and it will automatically dump the old and add the new?

Yes... badwords.php contains the most common english words and prevents them from being indexed.

The guidelines allow you to set the size of the words you want indexed.

  • Go into PHPMyAdmin and type:
    delete from searchindex

That will empty the table. You can then rebuild your slimmer index.

  • must be a silly question, but: what guidelines? And what's badwords.php? Did I doze off in class again?

  • great :)

  • There is also an "Empty" link in PhpMyAdmin in the list of table options.

  • Do the same to the 'words' table.
