Oi?

  • OK something has been bothering me for months now. Its the vowel "oi" how do you pronounce it exactly??

can you pronounce it with the "o" and "i" as separate vowels, or pronounce them together as "oi" which sounds like the "oi" in a pig's "oink" ?

Cause I've noticed it in words like "sugoi" and such.

  • Like the English Oi!

  • Depends on the word. Su-go-i it seperates it normally.
However, I do hear people say 'su-goy' where it sounds like one vowel.

It technically should be separate, because every phonetic symbol should be given equal stress, and you can't give equal stress if you roll one noise into another.

Just practice saying it how you hear it on animes, news etc

  • technically, you have to pronounce the vowels individually

  • su - go - i

    oi would be pronounced o - i

  • su - go - i

    oi would be pronounced o - i
Ok...but I have heard it pronounced with the o and i together like "oi"
