In Japan you can try all sorts of different green teas etc... and cheap too, and refreshing. I think it's the thing I missed most when I came back here.
Fortunately we get quite a lot of stuff sent from Japan so I don't miss so much other things. If there's anything I desparately want ( like nice mayonnaise for example), I can go down to London and buy it from the Japanese shop there.

I've lost a lot of weight during my journey through Burma (just 2 weeks), but for other reasons. At that time I had only traveller cheques and just a bit of cash. In Rangoon (now called Yangon) they told me that my cheques would not be accepted. So I started to trade my personal belongings, like a T-shirt for a rice dish etc. I even managed to acquire a few souvenirs (in exchange for a cheap walkman I bought in Thailand, lol). After I had traded my last T-shirt, I was really short on food, but hey, it was a big adventure!

I know what your talking about, I also really like Pocky and all those different kinds of candy/snacks that come with free toys (like ultra-man, hamtaro or whichever the product takes after, it's fun like Crackers Jacks but with coolers presents.) I went to Japan-street (supposed to be town,) when I was like 12 or 13 in San Fran and I bought my first Pocari Sweat and pretty much looted the whole candy row, I love japanese products, I don't know any other drink or food that gives me such a good inner-feeling from earting/drinking it, it's silly but true.

I guess that's true for most Asian countries, but especially were it's hot because you are not so hungry, sweat a lot and drink plenty of water. The ultimate diet. :Dcookies and ice cream my favorites.
Although, I like some of the Japanese snacks. Like karinto. It's some kind of sugar covered ???. The ??? sort of reminds me of really hard pretzels.
I also like black sugar from Okinawa.I've tried locusts in Burma, they fry them at train stations. Salty, crunchy, not bad. And healthy, lolol.
I love all kinds of nuts, especially cashew and macadamia nuts. The fatter, the tastier. Hm, at the moment I have 16 kgs more than just five years ago, but wouldn't consider myself fat (yet).

I thought it originated in Bando and spread from there.Anman, mochi, edamame, onigiri, kaki, nashi, any kind of cake, macha aisu, 'dars' milk chocolate, lemonwater, green tea, hiamugi, cold and sweet milk coffee - and sometimes a 'sapporo super dry' or a good sake. BTW, Baumkuchen really is a well known traditional cake in Germany! I even watched a report in Japan about a japanese baker who went to Germany to learn how to do it. And my mum always told me, that she loved to eat it when she was still a child, that was back in the early Sixties and in North Germany, too! My favorite candy are the meiji chocolate almond and white chocolate covered- strawberries. mmmmmThe Morinaga company first put out "Purittsu" ("Pritz", short for Pretzel) in the mid 1960s. Just very thin pretzel sticks.
Then they began coating the Purittsu in chocolate and called it "Pokkii" ("poki !" onomatopoeia for the sound when something like a pretzel breaks in half). For Exporting porposes it was modified the "Pocky" (same way Calpis was changed to "Calpico" for exports). Nowadays I've seen Pocky with different mousse flavor in Japanese markets in LA.oh man, i know this awesome japanese restaurant in Brooklyn that's not too expensive, i'd like to believe their food is authentic -- their miso and tempura tasts right, but i'm just a dumb amerikan -- but it sure is good.

Waw~ getting hungry now :smug:I drank a lot of Vanilla coke (seems they just got it in 2003,) while I was over there a few weeks ago this summer. I was kind of sad that Nikumon (pork buns,) are seasonal (I had gone each winter for the past several years,) and since I was there during the summer-time I guess it was too hot for hot food (but I was able to still buy corndogs and cheese sticks at the 7-11 which was just as good.) I also ate a lot of the 90yen cheese burgers at Mcdonalds and speaking of Mcdonalds I had ate a Japanese Mcdonalds breakfast for the first time in like four years of going to Japan, it was interesting, pretty good but still I find Mcdonalds in Japan to not be as processed as it's American counter-part where as I'd buy an sausage-mcmuffin over here (it'd be miniature with a synthetic looking egg patty,) and in Japan it'd be different (it'd be regular size with real looking product within the sandwhich itself.) It was pretty great.

actually i dont know if this is well known, its a tube of candies with a little collectable plastic stamp at the end, its called Juicy or Jyuu C something like that and the candies specially the pink ones (peach?) are sooooo yummy!! i havent had any for a while tho my supplier closed down and i cant get them anywhere else!!! hmmm now that i thin kabout it, theyre white with flecks of pink...mmmm...:giggle:pocky all the way ^^I thought it originated in Bando and spread from there.Juchheim was initially in Osaka camp then moved to Ninoshima, never in Bando according to the records and his diary.

It's so easy to go to Japan and just eat western style food - maybe I would've tended to do that, but since on this meat-less, sugar-less, oil-less, milk-less diet I've had to eat healthy washoku - now I LOVE Japanese food even more ;)Ocha. McNuggets: not very fond of them (at least the European ones), they taste very artificial. Probably they are, hehe...(I will exclude any non-Japanese snacks here.)
Pocky (all varieties), dried green peas with wasabi, lychee jelly, Hi-Chews (tried it once-not bad), tempura, drinks with boba, and some other snacks that I can't remember. I did try this shave ice that resembled cream anmitsu...actually I ate one of those yesterday at the mall. Now that I think about it, I think it probably was...:D
Just as a side note, at Suncoast, where I buy my anime DVDs, manga, and Newtype USA, they have a stall that sells many varities of Japanese snacks. Unfortunately, they're a little overpriced... :o /I like "o-zakku" chips & toppo stix. Despite my love for japanese junk food, I lost 10 kilos durring my year in Japan. which was weird, cuz i didn't know I had 10 kilos to lose.Fave drinks - Have a few, love Melon Fanta, bright green, then there the MAD sounding Calpico or Calpis a milky looking drink that's cool mixed with sparkling water, Strawberry flavour is the best. But Ichiban is sparkling Grape juice you get gtom the vending machines. Oh so yummi.
Drinks in Japan are are so good & plentiful too. Never with out a choice.

For some reason unbeknownst to me, it seems to be quite popular in Japan. Example: in the anime "Neon Genesis Evangelion", when Asuka tells Shinji to think German (so he can synchronize), the only thing he can come up with is "Baumkuchen" :D

I could eat them all the time. Are there any Japanese grocery stores around you? The one we go to has anpan in the frozen section along with the kurimupan and the other -pans.
